Use the following letter to stop Collection Agencies from contacting you by phone
It's the law!Send the letter via certified mail with a return receipt request. Obtain PS Forms #PS3800 & PS3811 from your local Post Office. Keep a copy of the letter for your files. Send out the letter within thirty days of the first contact by the collection agency or collection attorney. Any attorney who is collecting has to follow the same rules and regulations as any other collection agency so don't be intimidated because the collector happens to be an attorney. As long as the company calling collects two or more debts per year these rules apply. The collection agency or attorney are allowed (under law) to contact you one time, after receipt of the letter, to notify you or their intent. The intent should be to stop calling you. Debt buyers (pond scum) are subject to the law in spite of their assertions that since they bought the debt, they are not the collector. WRONG!!! Any company trying to collect from you and was not the original creditor is a collection agency and as such a debt collector, subject to the law. Send the letter, it's legal and it works! (You must send this letter via Certified Mail and with a Return Receipt this proves the letter was sent and received by the company when you get the return receipt back)

Dear Debt Collector;
This will serve as your legal notice under provisions of federal law, the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act FDCPA, to cease all communication with me in regard to the above referenced debt or debts.
If you fail to heed this notice, I will file a formal complaint against you with the Federal Trade Commission who is responsible for enforcement of the FDCPA, the States Attorney General's office, The American Collectors Association, local State Bar Association and Illegal Practices of Law Association.
I have decided that I do not want to work with your collection agency or for that matter any collection agency under any circumstances.
