Credit Help Services by Credit Clean Credit Bureau Challenges or Disputes What is a Challenge Or Dispute? A Dispute or Challenge is what is formatted and sent to a credit bureau or creditor. The dispute or challenge is formatted around an account that is being reported on a persons credit reports. When a dispute or challenge is submitted the account has to go through a process at the credit bureau and then the credit bureau must send back an updated credit file to show the results of the disputed or challenged account. The reason an account would be disputed or challenged is to attempt to remove or change the account on the credit reports. A dispute round is the process of sending a dispute to a credit bureau, waiting approximately thirty days for the credit bureaus to send the result of the dispute back via an updated credit report. This is called ONE DISPUTE ROUND. Most of our clients need at least four of these rounds when we are working on their credit reports. Disputes are made up of information you give us about an account, the research information we have found out about the account and the rules or guidelines of how the account can be disputed per the FCRA or the FDCPA. Each account with have it's own individual dispute. A challenge is the same as a dispute but sometimes we call a dispute sent directly to a creditor a CHALLENGE just to differentiate between a credit bureau and creditor dispute. The main purpose of a dispute is to get the disputed item removed or deleted entirely from a credit report. If the account is taken from negative status to positive status then this also accomplishes the same thing. The intension is to get as much negative off each credit report as possible which in turn allows your credit scores to go up and your interest rates to go down.
